HEREFORD’S multi-million pound flood scheme is nearing completion.
Environment Agency engineers say the city’s £5.5 million flood scheme will officially open next month.
All the bunds, memorial gates, walls and ramps are now complete at the King George V playing field and Bishops Meadow, and the cellar of the Saracens Head has been filled with concrete.
The strengthening work to the foundations of the wall at the rear of Riverside Training in St Martins Street and the new walkway structures at the end of Wye street are complete.
However, there is still some work left to do. Once the agency has fitted demountable panels at Riverside Walk, new steps will be built at the Wye Street end before resurfacing of the footpath and cycleway will be undertaken.
The agency will then raise and repair the wall to the rear of Riverside Training and attend to minor finishing around the site to complete the project.
The dog walking area along Hinton Road is still closed while the grass grows but the agency says residents can use the area by the Welsh Club.
The cycle path and footpath at Hinton Road and from St Martins Avenue are all open.
There will be a new temporary diversion between the end of Wye Street and Riverside Walk while new the steps are built.
Riverside Walk is expected to be complete and open to the public later this month.
